Esports career in CS:GO. Where and how to get started?

14.11.2022, 16:0

Young Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players who are just starting to build their esports career often have trouble choosing the right path. To be fair, there is not just one, strictly defined way to succeed on the esports scene. However, there are some points that are worth paying attention to, after all, they can strongly influence the development of a CS:GO player's career.

Esports shares many characteristics with traditional sports. One of them is the constant need to find and train new young players. Until a few years ago, much less attention was paid to this issue, but over time, with the professionalization of electronic sports, the approach has changed. Today, leading esports clubs regularly reach out for perspective players, hoping to win trophies of major tournaments with their help.

However, in order to get noticed by any of the top organizations, each player has to make it through a very challenging and bumpy road. Where to start, then? What to do and what to avoid? What aspects to pay attention to? Let's check!

Key to success

The key to success in any esports discipline is training and a constant desire to become better. Novice players should regularly train individually, develop their team play skills, spend time analyzing demos and performing exercise. It can also be useful to use platforms like GGPredict, which not only allows you to practice many different elements relevant to CS:GO, but also conducts effective game analysis, which makes it easier to draw the right conclusions.

CS:GO ranked? Only for fun

Ranked matches in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are great for beginners to get to know the game and get around it. Nevertheless, in the long run, they are not an optimal form of training.

For years now, it's well known that Valve has had huge problems with cheaters who ruin others' fun in CS:GO. These are also present precisely in ranked matches, and although there is an anti-cheat, in this mode cheaters can be found extremely often. After just a few matches of this type, irritation or annoyance can creep in, resulting in not effectively spent time.

However, ranked matches are a great way to spend time in CS:GO together with friends. If you manage to assemble a full team of five of your friends, you're sure to have a great time.

Play on FACEIT

There are better forms of playing CS:GO matches on a tournament basis than ranked matches. Among the most popular are such platforms as FACEIT, where players are selected based on the level they present. In addition, the aforementioned service offer additional protections against cheaters, so there are far fewer of them there than in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive matchmaking.

Also importantly, third-party platforms offering so-called PUGs (tournament-based ranked matches) are used by professional players and streamers. They usually play in the top divisions, so hitting them will only be possible after some time. But isn't the prospect of someday being able to meet a representative from one of the top teams an extra boost of motivation?

Have a chance to get noticed!

How to get a novice CS:GO player noticed by a professional or at least semi-professional organization? For this to happen, he or she must first of all present above-average skills. But where to showcase those skills? The answer to this question is crucial.

Almost every day there are CS:GO tournaments open to everyone. Sometimes the fight is for material or cash prizes, other times for a qualification to some tournament. However, the prize itself is not as important as just taking part in this type of competition. Definitely more important is the experience that can be gained from the competition, which involves pressure and stress, and the opportunity to show off to a wider audience.

As the search for young and promising players is on the rise, there is no shortage of projects on the CS:GO scene designed to "fish out" the most talented players. Active participation in such projects will not only help in the development of the skills, but also increase the chances of being noticed by experts, coaches, or more experienced CS:GO players.

An excellent example of such a project is SCOU7. Its goal is to identify six promising CS:GO players with whom professional contracts will be signed. The team formed in this way will thus gain the right resources to try their hand at competing on both the domestic and international scene. The SCOU7 project is an ideal chance to shine on the CS:GO esports scene!

Taking care of the image is part of the esports career

An esports player is primarily looked at through the prism of what level he presents when competing on a server. However, his career is not limited to this. The player's reputation is also an important element.

Beginning players do not need to immediately set up social media profiles and focus on building their own fan base. However, it is worth thinking about it when the career is gaining momentum and the player enters the next level. However, social media activity should not be prioritized over training in CS:GO, after all, it can lead to the moment when a promising player becomes an influencer.

Nevertheless, image is not limited to social media alone. It also consists of at least the right behavior all the time. It is important to remember about the right attitude in every situation to avoid possible unpleasant situations in the future.

Multidimensional training combined with playing CS:GO ranking matches on external platforms is a great way to start your esports career. To get noticed, we recommend active participation in projects aimed at young and prospective players and participation in open tournaments. By combining all these elements, you can take your first steps on the esports path!
