CS:GO Best Radar Settings

First-Person Shooter (FPS) games, one of which is undoubtedly Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, have accustomed players to having a radar. It allows players to gain a broader perspective of the combat operations in progress. What CS:GO has in its favor is that many elements of the game can be customized to personal preferences. Radar is - fortunately - one of them! Learn about the most useful radar commands and the best radar settings in CS:GO, which will make the field of view even greater!

In CS:GO, radar significantly enhances perspective during the game. It allows users to see where their teammates are at any given moment, which in turn can make it easier to make the right tactical decision. The radar also displays the position of the terrorists in the form of red dots when the enemy is spotted by any of the counter-terrorist, and vice versa. This is especially important when companions do not communicate all the information in real time via the voice chat. What's more, CS:GO radar is also useful for showing the exact position of a dropped or planted C4 explosive. This often underrated element of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the silent hero of matches. With a few commands and changes, you can make the help CS:GO radar offers even better!

CS:GO Radar Settings

The basic CS:GO radar settings are available to any user of the game through the game menu. To find them, after launching Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, navigate to the Settings tab, and then scroll down to the Radar section. This is where you will find the CS:GO radar settings.

In fact, of these, the most significant option seems to be "Tablet map orientation", which not only allows for the said orientation change, because Valve has hidden here another functionality. You can make the radar in CS:GO display the entire map, and not just a small section of it. This will provide the player with accurate information about the position of his companions at all times.

Below that, there are also options to change the radar's size and shape when the scoreboard is opened. Among the basic options Valve has put in the hands of CS:GO players, editing the focus area and rotating the radar is also available.

CS:GO Radar. Best commands

More advanced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players, who have already had a chance to use commands that change various game settings, can use the following list. With the listed commands, you can customize your CS:GO radar. It is worth noting that the commands are responsible for the same options that can be found in the CS:GO menu.

It is best to put the following commands, along with the values you have chosen, in the CS:GO config. This way the settings will be loaded every time the player starts the game and there will be no need to type them in again. This is also a more practical solution when the player attends lan tournaments where they use their own config.

A list of commands that allow you to custom the radar in CS:GO:

  • cl_hud_radar_scale - this command is responsible for adjusting the size of the CS:GO radar. By default, it is set to 1.
  • cl_radar_always_centered - this command is responsible for the area of the map that is displayed on the radar. By default, the command is enabled (value 1), so the radar limits the displayed area, focusing on the player's closer surroundings.
  • cl_radar_scale - this command sounds very similar to the first one on this list, but its effect is different. This is because it is responsible for the area of the map displayed on the radar. By default, the value of the command is set to 1, so the presented area is narrowed.
  • cl_radar_icon_scale_min - this command is responsible for the size of icons visible on the radar.
  • cl_radar_rotate - this command is responsible for the behavior of the radar when a CS:GO player's model is rotated. When it is enabled (value 1), mouse movements made by the player are reproduced on the radar.
  • cl_radar_square_with_scoreboard - this command makes the shape of the radar change to square when viewing the scoreboard. It is enabled by default.

Best CS:GO Radar Settings

Many CS:GO players may begin to ask themselves: what are the best radar settings in CS:GO? There is no definitive answer, because a lot depends, for example, on the screen resolution one uses and personal preferences. However, below are the best radar settings in CS:GO, in our opinion, along with an explanation of why we recommend exactly such settings.

  • cl_hud_radar_scale "1.15" - by choosing the value of 1.15, the radar becomes slightly larger, and thus more readable.
  • cl_radar_always_centered "0" - by disabling this command, the radar will not focus only on the nearest area, so it will display a wider perspective.
  • cl_radar_scale "0.3" - the value of 0.3 with this command allows displaying a larger area of the map.
  • cl_radar_icon_scale_min "1" - setting this command to 1 will make the icons displayed on the radar larger than they are by default.
  • cl_radar_rotate "1" - this is the default setting of this command and is also the most natural one when playing CS:GO.
  • cl_radar_square_with_scoreboard "1" - this is also the default setting of the command. It is worth checking for yourself which version is more convenient.

Any CS:GO player should "befriend" with radar. Thanks to it, one can gain a better insight into what is currently happening on the map. Using the right settings, a player can further facilitate their orientation in the virtual terrain. Nevertheless, it is worth remembering that the settings listed above are only our recommended settings. We encourage everyone to further personalize and test other solutions, as they may prove more beneficial.
