Watching the matches of professional CS:GO players, you can often see perfectly thrown grenades. Smoke, which falls in the right place and cuts off opponents, flash, which blinds several rivals and makes it easier to take over a position, and HE or molotov depriving rivals of valuable health points. The ability to throw such grenades is dreamed of by practically every CS:GO player. How to practice throwing them to master it to perfection?
Learning to throw smokes, flashes or explosive grenades in CS:GO doesn't have to be long, arduous, and difficult at all. After all, you need to remember that on each map, there are basically a few basic spots that a CS:GO player should master. It's best to start by learning grenades on the map on which one plays most often. This way it is possible to get familiar with the most necessary elements, and later gradually enrich the skill set with new grenades. There are also many different ways and tools available for such training. Thanks to the great variety, there is no doubt that a player will not get bored so quickly.
CS:GO grenades training maps
One of the basic and at the same time most popular solutions when it comes to grenade throwing training in CS:GO are the maps available in the Steam Workshop. They allow for an easy way to learn the most necessary positions from which to throw grenades.
At the same time, this is probably one of the most effective ways to train grenades. The player moves around real locations available in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, getting used to the proper positioning and choosing the right throwing angle.
Maps created by Yesber are a great example. In the Steam Workshop you will find arenas of his invention, where you can practice grenades on all maps currently in the tournament pool, as well as on several additional ones. After selecting the right location and launching it in CS:GO, the player can practice throwing smoke and other grenades in several different modes - including with and without guidance. Once the player feels more confident, he can use the challenge mode, testing how well he can throw grenades at the indicated areas.
Useful commands and binds
However, custom maps from Steam Workshop are not the only way to practice grenades in CS:GO. Throwing smokes or flashes can also be trained on standard locations using the corresponding commands and binds. Below, we will describe some of the most useful commands that will make grenade training more effective.
Before we move on to discuss specific commands that make it easier to conduct effective grenade throwing training in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, we will introduce you to a few commands that are useful in any form of training on a private server or in a game with bots. You can even use them in the form of a dedicated config - this form is intended for more advanced users, but it will save some time in the future. Below is a full list of commands useful during CS:GO training, along with a description of how they work:
sv_grenade_trajectory in this case can be treated as an absolutely basic CS:GO command. It will make it possible to see its exact trajectory after throwing a grenade. This will be indicated by the line displayed after throwing the grenade, which can be also personalized:
When practicing grenades in CS:GO, the cl_grenadepreview 1 command can also be helpful. It allows a player to see where their chosen grenade will land before they throw it, which can make it easier to discover previously unknown line-ups.
Individual CS:GO grenade training will certainly be significantly facilitated by the sv_rethrow_last_grenade command. How it works. A player using this command positions himself in a selected place and throws a specific grenade, then they can change their position and enter the command or use the bind, so that the same grenade they threw a moment ago is automatically thrown again. In this way, one can check which positions are blinded by the thrown flash or test how much damage a nade will do.
Have an eye on the CS:GO pro scene and game updates
The CS:GO esports scene and the game itself are dynamically changing. In fact, with each new tournament, the participating teams present more and more new grenades to surprise opponents. For this reason, it's worth keeping a close eye on the matches of professional CS:GO teams, as it's possible to catch a glimpse of new grenades that a player can later practice on a private server to later use during PUGs or other matches.
It's also important to keep track of the changes being made to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Occasionally, Valve adds new updates to the game that change various elements. Sometimes these are only cosmetic fixes, but it also happens that selected objects are removed from certain maps or their location is changed. When this happens, it may turn out that thrown smoke no longer bounces in the same way, and a player who is unaware of the latest CS:GO changes will be left wondering for a long time why his rival kept a certain position or could still see that position.
Apps
Is there a player that spends an afternoon, evening, weekend or any other time playing CS:GO and does not have a smartphone at hand? Probably no. When playing matchmaking or PUGs, you can help yourself by using mobile apps that show you the positions for throwing the most important grenades on every map.
Both in the AppStore and the Google Store there are such apps available. Thanks to them, we can see where to stand and what point to aim at in order to throw the perfect smoke, or hit with a popflash that will effectively blind the enemy. At the same time, it should be remembered that the use of such applications in some cases may be seen as the use of prohibited programs, so we recommend that you always verify the rules of the CS:GO competition.
Discover new smokes and flashes by yourself!
CS:GO provides almost endless possibilities when it comes to new grenades. So you can never assume that you can't discover a new way to throw a fresh smoke or flash to help yourself during competition. Knowing all the previously described ways to train grenades in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, you can try different settings and locations on your own to find grenades that no one has discovered before. Later, such a grenade can be used in a PUG, a CS:GO ranking match, or during a match in a tournament. Who knows - perhaps thanks to a flash grenade discovered on your own, your team will get a point on the importance of victory? The original grenade can also be shared with others - by uploading it to Twitter or Reddit, for example. The appreciation of the CS:GO community is priceless!
There are actually many ways to conduct CS:GO training. It depends on the individual approach, the time available, and the desire to do so, how quickly a given player will master basic grenades. When the basics are in their little finger, they will be able to switch to a more creative activity, that is, finding new smokes, molotovs, and flashes. The possibilities are endless!
